Rochdale supporters trust approached Factor 50 in 2009 wanting to participate in some joint fundraising. Their approach was precipitated by the sad loss of Ernie Cooksey, who had played for both Rochdale and Oldham Athletic, to malignant melanoma, they wanted to help fund research into the disease. It was decided to organise a golf day and award an annual trophy in Ernies name, something his family have given their blessing to.

Manchester golf club, with one of the north's premier courses at Hopwood in Middleton, is playing host to our inaugural golf day.

The course is a championship class course, having hosted PGA European Tour Qualifiers. It is predominantly moorland in character with heathland and parkland features and is set in just over 240 acres.The course itself, at 6,650 yards, provides as stiff a test as is to be found in British inland golf and is widely considered to be one of the finest inland courses in the North of England.

Entry to the competition is £260 per team of 4, the day comprises

Light lunch of soup, sandwiches and coffee

18 holes of afternoon golf on this superb course

3 course evening meal

World cup quarter final to be shown live in the function suite after the meal. If England win their group and progress to this stage, they will be the game on. A sports memorabilia auction will take place at half time.

Entry is limited to 20 teams, a limited amount of tickets on a meal only basis for the evenings entertainment are available at £20.

Individual trophies will be awarded to the winning foursome and to the players with the longest drive and nearest the pin.
