Guide to sunscreen and keeping safe in the sun this summer
Wed 22nd Jul 09 - 16:09

WITH a hot summer under way, sunseekers will be rushing to get a tan.

Half of Brits said darker skin made them feel healthier, in a poll for Cancer Research UK.

But exposure to harmful UV rays, whether from the sun or a sunbed, is a major risk factor for skin cancer.

Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman, who gives her tips for keeping kids safe on these pages, tells how her sun-loving mum Eleanor suffered breast cancer in 2007 and is now “very cautious” about sun exposure.

Edith says: “Thankfully she has recovered now. She put a stop to the foreign holidays and wears sun cream every day. She’s always telling me to make sure I stay protected – and my little boy Rudy, too.”
